My first fundraiser

Christy and I attended one of Obama's first fundraisers since becoming President. We sneaked in at a $100 rate and although not cheap, we both thought, this may be our only chance to see him without having to take out a mortgage.

As you can see from the pictures, the lines were quite long . They nearly wrapped around the entire block, but we made it just in time to see the entertainment, Tony Bennett. As a newbie, I thought the fundraiser would be like a concert--where you wait forever before the main performance. But much to my surprise, it started on time and Tony sang several songs (I thought it would be one and then he would blow out of there) . He also wowed us with a un-mice performance of "Fly me to the Moon." Meet the newest Tony Bennett fan.

You can also see that $100 didn't give us the best seats in the house. So, if you are looking at the slideshow and don't know who's who: the first picture of a guy is Tony Bennet, the second picture of a guy is Tim Kaine, DNC Chairman and third picture is of course, President Obama.

The Bigelow Brackets

Can one of the Bigelows beat the President during March Madness? Check out President Obama's bracket and compare it to Chris's or mine.

Chris, of course, had to put his alma mater winning the tournament. I predict one of two sceanarios. One: The Mizzou basketball team will continue down the same path as of the other teams Chris supports (Chiefs, Royals--yes, Royals, Wizards, Mizzou football) and lose, probably early.

Before I get to two, there is some back story. A few years ago, when Florida won their first NCAA Basketball Championship, I filled out my first bracket and basically just put Florida going first because I don't really like basketball and for along time UConn meant Yukon and there was some basketball team in the West with the same name as a SUV. Well guess what? Florida won and so did I. I believe mama got a new pair of shoes.

So, two: Lelaine's beginner's luck and Florida greatness will rub off on Bigelow and Mizzou will (pause) go (pause) all (pause) the (pause) way.

Admittedly, I am a bad wife and have Mizzou losing to Memphis in the 3rd round or whatever it is called the elite eight or sexy sixteen. However, it would be nice for Chris to have some championship to point to other than the 1985 World Series won by the Royals or even worse, when Mizzou beat Florida in the 1965 Sugar Bowl. So, hooray, hurrah, Mizzou, Mizzou.

My parents are helping the auto industry and the economy

Check out my mom's new car. Her first car in 14 years. It replaces my mom's Colt Vista from 1995 that replaced my mom's Volkswagen Golf from 1985.

What makes me laugh was my dad's comment after they bough it, which can also serve as quote of the day. "The last time we bought cars was 10 or 14 years ago. Now everything in the car is electronic, so we need to learn how to use it."

My mom really wanted a red car so "everyone can notice her when she drives it," but she said silver was also a good color.

More comfort weekend

Despite the fact that I am ready for it to be warm, DC had snow flurries yesterday. Clearly, I needed some comfort so made beef stew for the husband and me. Not a big "stew" fan, Chris said this was the best stew he's ever had. Although, I would have much preferred rice with the stew, I made egg noodles for a more American feel.

I think tomorrow we are going with our old stand by, roast chicken.

A nice weekend

Anyone who's ever been to our place probably notices the plethora of magazines dotting our small place. As I prepare for what I hope is a pretty relaxing weekend, the postman made a great delivery today with an Anthropologie catalog, People, Dwell and Travel and Leisure. Perhaps, if I am feeling up to it I'll read Smart Money as well. Hopefully, this won't distract me too much from my book club book which I have to read by Thursday and I haven't started.

Life and blessings

Life has been so hectic lately that I haven't blogged in awhile. It's a good thing Chris has had a lot to say, otherwise we might lose our loyal readership.

I just want to post a picture of my uncle Jess tonight because our family has been blessed with him and a miracle. On Saturday, he was the victim of an act of violence that caused him to have emergency head surgery. I still am shocked to even say it. I am so happy to report that he's doesn't have any long term damage and is doing better everyday. He's a strong man and I wouldn't expect anything less.

My mom and my uncle Jess are siblings, but I really think they are like best friends. My mom's loves to hear the phone ring in the morning and my uncle say "Your coffee smells good. I'm coming over to have some." Naturally, this makes me very close to him and a very hard time for me to be far away. I am trying something very "unnatural" for me and focus on the blessings rather than the incident.

P.S. The police apprehended the perpetrator on Saturday.
